What WES Is
World Education Services is a non-profit credential evaluation body, widely accepted by US universities and designated by Canada for Express Entry immigration. It assesses your foreign qualification and calculates a GPA from your actual transcript.
Two Report Types
A document-by-document report gives your degree equivalent and overall GPA. A course-by-course report adds individual courses, grades and credits. Most university applications need course-by-course; immigration often accepts document-by-document.
When You Need One
You most likely need a formal evaluation when a university’s admissions page explicitly requires one, when applying for professional licensure in engineering, medicine or nursing, for Canadian immigration through Express Entry, or when a programme requires a standardised GPA for competitive ranking. The Timeline
WES requires documents sent directly by your institution. Realistically: you request transcripts, your university mails them, WES processes them (about seven business days). Six to eight weeks end-to-end is typical. Start at least three months before your deadline. If home-country attestation is needed first, add another month.
